CLAY & COTTON HONORED

Clay & Cotton was honored by being mentioned in two magazine articles in the month of September.

Southern Living published an article, Wanda McKinney, “Head for the Highlands”. Southern LivingSeptember 2009: pg. km8.

The following excerpt from the article was written about our store:

“…About a mile down Baxter Avenue, CLAY & COTTON offers everything from world music CD’s to Italian Pottery. Housed in a 1894 building, the shop carries a global variety of home decor items, kitchen accessories and women’s apparel. CLAY & COTTON also has a location at The Summit shopping center, and both shops ship their rugs free anywhere in the US. 1341 Bardstown Road; www.clayandcotton.com or (502) 456-5536. …

Louisville Magazine published an article, “Shop Hop – Spree Spirit (25 Shops worth the Stop)”. Louisville Magazine September 2009: pg. 37 – 41.

The following excerpt from the article, “Shop Hop” , was written about our store:

“…Reminiscent of a San Francisco boutique, CLAY & COTTON (4025 Summit Plaza Drive, 420-0701, and, 1341 Bardstown Road, 456-5536) displays a collection of brilliant area rugs and pottery from around the world, showcasing colors that illuminate the little shop. Its crown jewel, in our view, is the women’s apparel, which features some popular national brands that are nonetheless challenging to find around here. you can expect unusual, textured fabrics from Kial, whimsical designs from Nic + Zoe, and washable silk from Nomadic Traders. FLAX specializes in colorful, organic, yarn-dyed linens with affirmations – “Good things will happen!” – sewn into the labels. …”

HOW TO CARE FOR AREA RUGS

This is a quick guide to the cleaning and care of area rugs. Should long ends of yarn appear on surface the surface of any area rug, do not pull or tug to remove them. The proper method of removal of loose longer ends of yarns is to use scissors to trim the yarn evenly with rug surface. Always keep your rugs free of dirt, grit and grime by vacuuming your rugs on a regular basis. For hooked rugs, use the ‘bare floors’ setting on the vacuum. This setting will extend the life of the hooked rug and keep the hooked yarns on the rugs from being damaged. When necessary, you can spot clean your rugs with a mild cleaning solution formulated for wool fabrics. If your rug is damp or wet always air-dry them to prevent the deterioration of the fabrics. It is okay to have your rugs cleaned periodically by a local carpet or floor coverings professional in order to keep your investment lasting a lifetime.
